Does weigela bloom all summer?

Sonic Bloom® weigela are the strongest rebloomers ever seen in weigela. Loads of hot pink flowers in May are followed by waves of blooms until frost. No deadheading is needed to see strong reblooming through summer and fall.

Do you cut back weigela?

Trimming the plant back maintains a more desirable size and ensures the plant is a beautiful part of the landscape instead of taking over an area. Cutting back Weigela will also promote more growth and flowers. Flowers grow on new growth, so trimming the plant will encourage healthier branching and more blooms.

How many hours of sun does weigela need?

Light. Weigela bushes love sunlight and should be planted somewhere in your landscape that boasts at least eight to ten hours of direct light per day.

How many times a year does weigela bloom?

Plants bloom heavily in late May or June on the previous year's growth. They also bloom intermittently through the summer on the current season's growth. Weigelas are prone to winter dieback. Carefully examine plants in late winter/early spring and prune out any dead wood.

Weigela is vigorous and often outgrows its space, but pruning straight after flowering will overcome this problem. Prune after flowering to ensure the plant's energy is channelled into new growth that will flower abundantly in spring. Cut the flowered shoots back by about a third.
